Perfect for those new to Microsoft Robotics Studio, this challenge provides grounding in key skills you’ll need throughout the competition.

Mars Rover Challenge
Next stop, Mars! Program your robot to navigate the red planet’s terrain and collect data for analysis back on Earth. Take special care with your programming your robot, as the surface is littered with rocks and craters that could damage it, potentially rendering it inoperable.

Urban Challenge
Do you hate driving downtown? What if you could program a car to do the driving itself? Now you can. Downtown Driving puts you in 3-D city complete with buildings, stores, restaurants, fountains, bust stops, and more.
Your car will not only have to avoid driving through the outdoor café and through the barriers at the parking lot, you’ll need to avoid road construction crews and other cars driving in the environment.

Robot Rescue Challenge
There’s been an earthquake and there are places where humans just can’t get to. It’s time to send in the robots. You’ll be given a new robot and challenged to program a robot search and rescue effort. Navigate through the rubble, find survivors and rescue them. Save the day and emerge a robot hero.

Sumo Challenge
Two robots. One ring. To declare yourself the victor, you'll need to code your robot to get your opponent out of the ring, all while avoiding his attempts to do the same to you.

Tournament Challenge
This is where we separate the bots from the droids. You’ll use the skills you’ve acquired in this season’s challenges and compete head to head against other people in the community. This single elimination tournament will progress until four finalists are identified. These finalists will be flown to an event where they’ll compete head to head. And they won’t be competing in the simulation environment. Because code written in Microsoft Robotics Studio (MSRS) can easily go from simulated robots to the real thing, the finalists will be competing with real robots.

Must be at least 18 years old, a qualified resident from an eligible geography, and have technical programming education, experience and/or knowledge to program a simulated, autonomous robot using Microsoft Robotics Developer Studio 2008.
